About the Distillery
In early 2021, the Jackson Purchase team acquired a once-dormant distillery that was built in 2008 but had never been used. They invested an additional $10 million in infrastructure, expansion and a distilling dream team, which includes veteran distillers Craig Beam (Heaven Hill) and Terry Ballard (Willett). In 2023 they took this expansions a step further by investing an additional $25 million to bring further their pursuit to craft the finest bourbon.
Located in Fulton County, the westernmost county in Kentucky, Jackson Purchase Distillery borders Tennessee and is actually closer to Memphis and Nashville than Louisville or Lexington. The distillery has been making a name for itself in the industry and steadily producing quality Kentucky bourbon under the hands-on, experienced leadership of Beam and Ballard.
Master Distiller Craig Beam is a seventh-generation distiller whose family is linked to another famous Kentucky distillery: Jim Beam. Craig’s father, the legendary Parker Beam, decided to pursue a distilling career at the nearby Heaven Hill Distillery in the 1960s and worked there until he lost his battle with ALS in 2017. Craig Beam joined his father in the distilling industry at Heaven Hill in the 1980s.
Assistant Master Distiller Terry Ballard was formerly the Head Distiller at Willett Distillery in Bardstown, well-known for its high-end and highly-coveted Willett Family Estate bourbon and rye whiskey releases. Ballard started at Willett in 2011 and quickly worked his way up to Head Distiller.
Jackson Purchase Distillery combines age-old bourbon industry traditions with modern technology to create highly sought-after mash bills for companies both large and small. One of the distillery’s most prized possessions is its 24-inch, 30-foot-tall, 100% copper still from the world-renowned Vendome Copper & Brass Works in Louisville. Nearly all of the top bourbon distilleries in Kentucky use Vendome- made equipment, but most don’t invest in 100% copper due to high costs.
There’s also a limestone aquifer on site, so access to the vital limestone-filtered water in the bourbon-making process will be effortless and natural. And since corn grows bountiful in Fulton County, the distillery uses locally sourced grains for the bourbon.

About The Location Hickman, Kentucky
Located along the banks of the Mississippi River, Hickman, Kentucky sits in the heart of the Jackson Purchase region, an area known for its deep agricultural roots and long-standing connection to American whiskey production. The surrounding farmland produces high-quality corn and grains, while Kentucky’s limestone-rich water provides the ideal foundation for crafting exceptional bourbon. Combined with the region’s warm summers and cool winters, the climate creates natural expansion and contraction within the barrel, helping the spirit interact with the charred American oak and develop rich flavor and complexity over time.
Hickman is a place where heritage and craftsmanship come together. Distillers in this region carry forward Kentucky’s proud whiskey-making tradition while benefiting from a quieter, rural setting dedicated to quality and patience. With its historic riverfront location, strong farming community, and commitment to the craft of distillation, Hickman provides an ideal home for barrels that will mature into the next generation of exceptional Kentucky bourbon.
About The Mashbill
This bourbon is crafted from a 70% corn, 20% wheat, and 10% malted barley mash bill, a classic wheated bourbon recipe that produces a smooth, rounded, and approachable spirit. Wheated mash bills are used by some of Kentucky’s most celebrated bourbons, including brands such as Maker’s Mark, W.L. Weller, and Pappy Van Winkle, all known for their rich sweetness and exceptionally balanced character.
A mash bill is the grain recipe that forms the foundation of every bourbon. Each grain plays a distinct role. Corn provides the signature sweetness and full body required for bourbon. Wheat replaces rye in this recipe, softening the flavor profile and adding smooth, bread-like sweetness. Malted barley supports fermentation while contributing subtle layers of toasted grain and gentle nuttiness.
The result is a bourbon known for its elegant character and long aging potential. Expect notes of caramel, vanilla, honeyed grain, and soft oak that develop greater depth over time. As the barrels mature, the spirit becomes increasingly refined, with the oak imparting layers of complexity that make wheated bourbons especially prized among collectors and enthusiasts.
About The Barrel
This bourbon is aging in an ISC American White Oak barrel with a Level 4 Char, crafted by Independent Stave Company, the most respected cooperage in the world. ISC has supplied premium barrels to top Kentucky distilleries for over a century, known for their precise toasting profiles, consistent quality, and deep understanding of how oak shapes a whiskey’s character.
By law, bourbon must be aged in new charred American white oak barrels, and for good reason: an estimated 50–70% of a bourbon’s final flavor and 100% of its color come from the barrel. American white oak is prized for its tight grain structure, natural vanillins, and rich oak lactones, all of which contribute sweetness, caramel, spice, and depth as the spirit matures.
A #4 char, often referred to as the “alligator char,” creates a deeply textured interior surface, increasing the interaction between the spirit and the wood. This accelerates flavor extraction and enables the development of bold notes like toasted sugar, baking spice, and dark caramel over time. Barrels from ISC are trusted by master distillers across Kentucky, providing the foundation for some of the most award-winning bourbons produced today.
