About The Mashbill

This bourbon is crafted from a 53% corn, 39% wheat, and 8% malted barley mash bill, a distinctive high-wheat bourbon recipe known for its soft, rich, and exceptionally smooth character. Mash bills with elevated wheat content are used by several celebrated Kentucky bourbons, including expressions from Maker’s Mark, W.L. Weller, and other renowned wheated styles, which are prized for their round sweetness and refined texture.

A mash bill is the grain recipe that forms the foundation of every bourbon. Each grain plays a distinct role. Corn provides the signature sweetness and full body required for bourbon. Wheat replaces rye in this recipe, creating a softer and more approachable profile with gentle sweetness and smooth structure. Malted barley supports fermentation while contributing subtle layers of toasted grain and light nuttiness.

With its unusually high wheat content, this mash bill produces a bourbon that is naturally elegant and mellow. This bourbon is aging in an ISC American White Oak barrel with a Level 4 Char, crafted by Independent Stave Company, the most respected cooperage in the world. ISC has supplied premium barrels to top Kentucky distilleries for over a century, known for their precise toasting profiles, consistent quality, and deep understanding of how oak shapes a whiskey’s character.

By law, bourbon must be aged in new charred American white oak barrels, and for good reason: an estimated 50–70% of a bourbon’s final flavor and 100% of its color come from the barrel. American white oak is prized for its tight grain structure, natural vanillins, and rich oak lactones, all of which contribute sweetness, caramel, spice, and depth as the spirit matures.

A #4 char, often referred to as the “alligator char,” creates a deeply textured interior surface, increasing the interaction between the spirit and the wood. This accelerates flavor extraction and enables the development of bold notes like toasted sugar, baking spice, and dark caramel over time.
